Womad Festival, Taranaki, New Zealand from Electric Bicycle World Tour on Vimeo.
Not only Eddie Reader but also Ojos de brujo, Mariem Hassan and Amal Murkus commented during the weekend at one time or another: Everything is possible if one wants and believes in what he does, and that’s one thing beautiful about life. Everyone can participate; do something, any detail helps.
The goal was to be present at the Womad festival, an event of great dimensions, in order to further promote the use of electric bicycles as alternative transportation. At first it seemed impossible, but finally I got it through EBWT. It all started at the gates of the festival, looking for help paying for entry, as the festival organizers had not seen fit to accept the request to be invited to the world music festival for sustainability.
“Life gives you surprises, but when one persists in what he believes.” On Friday afternoon, Nick Todd, great person and new commercial hub of New Energy in New Plymouth, he stopped and thought I should also be inside. I could not get a ticket, but was determined to ask the company stands and institutions to which I could lend a hand. Half an hour later, he got half the money, thanks to Venture Taranaki and the ever-present help of Wisper, my entry was soon to be.
A sign of scandal, the joy of New Zealanders and the prospect of a weekend with many possibilities, opened the doors to a well deserved break after almost 10,000 km.
On Saturday morning, EBWT was local paper front page, we presented the project at the Radio Festival thanks to the City Council, and by late morning, Rob Jagger director of Shell New Zealand got in touch to offer help. Shell sponsors the festival promoting the sustainability of its branches dedicated to alternative energy, and as had already won EBWT entry, offered to provide food, drinks and access to all areas of the festival.
And little by little, step-by-step, EBWT was increasingly present in the festival. Wisper is present in New Zealand through electricbikes.co.nz, and Anthony Clyde and his fantastic team; we provide power to the audience smiles. There is a common feature to all who pedaled an electric bicycle, electric smile!
Musicians surprised the audience one after another (with some disappointment, it is also true), and people once again (always people), were the real highlight of the Festival. Incredible stories, wonderful projects, honest intentions, specific actions, each brings its bit.
Anthony, Nick, Sylvia, Sergio, Ojos de brujo technicians and musicians, Rob Jagger, Nickodemus, Luciana, Babylon Circus, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Calexico, Nortec Collective, Mariem Hassan, Kamel El Haraachi … unforgettable.
Thanks to the work done between all weekend, many people have known electric bikes and soon there will be many on the streets of New Zealand.
You can also add your two cents! Electric bicycle move!
